“Silicon Valley”) is a nickname for the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California in the United States of America that serves as a global hub for high tech, innovation, venture capital and social media average. The word “Silicon” (“silicon”) originally referred to the large number of silicon chip innovators in the region and the initial strong concentration of semiconductor and microchip manufacturers (both based on silicon), which served as an attractive pole for the subsequent establishment of computer companies, software manufacturers and network service providers. “Valley”, on the other hand, refers to an area of the Santa Clara Valley in Santa Clara County, which includes the city of San Jose and surrounding towns, where the region has traditionally been centered.

2. NAPA VALLEY

It is the most famous wine-growing area in California, about 100 km north of San Francisco. Thanks to the climate, viticulture has flourished there since the mid-nineteenth century, already in 1880 there were 7,300 hectares of vineyards, comparable to the vineyard areas of Alto Adige and Liguria added together. In the 60s of the twentieth century the Mondavi family, originally from the Marche region, invested huge sums to raise the quality of the grapes and winemaking. Today there are about 20,000 hectares of which about two thirds are white.
